Alodokter Snaps Seed Funding Led by Fenox VC

Healthcare in Indonesia is on the rise. Alodokter announced it has received seed funding from group of investor, led by Fenox VC, with participation from 500 Startups, Lim Der Shing, and Golden Gate Ventures. The funding will be used to attract talents and to help reach local and regional leadership in the industry.

Founded by Nathanael Faibis on September 2014, Alodokter joins the series of healthcare startup to cater the need of reliable health information portal, served especially in Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian). Alodokter hopes to be the WebMD of Indonesia, where Indonesians look to find objective news and advice. By March 2015, Alodokter served one million unique visitors.

Two months ago, PilihDokter received funding from RingMD. It will boost the competition in healthcare industry in Indonesia that's see lots of opportunity since there's no clear leader at this moment.

Faibis said in the press release, “We hope to sustain our strong traffic growth through this funding round to attain Indonesian and then regional leadership, while building sustainable businesses the portal. Attracting the best talents to this relatively unknown industry is critical when the demand for health information in Indonesia is seeing 50% annual growth.”

Eddy Lee, Fenox VC's Head of Investments, about this investment said, "Nathanael’s familiarity with the Indonesia market as a former healthcare consultant coupled with his operational experience while with Rocket Internet’s Lazada gives him a distinctive edge in growing Alodokter. The current phenomenon of health IT disruption in the rich world will soon migrate to emerging markets such as Indonesia, availing quality care to the masses regardless of income levels through telemedicine, wearables or other mobile health technology.”

Lee himself is is concurrently a Consulting Professor at Stanford University, School of Medicine, and a self-professed health tech nut.
