Foursquare is now open for businesses

Foursquare finally launched Pages for brands and organizations today after more than a year since Intel became the first brand to be featured on Foursquare with its own profile.

With the 3000 or so brands that have their own official Foursquare pages, it turns out that Foursquare's team had to go and create them one by one and it involved a complicated back and forth between Foursquare and each organization. Imagine doing this 3000 times since brand pages were yet to be an actual feature in Foursquare.

Today changes all that. Today Foursquare turns brand pages loose and allows companies and organizations to create their own page which they can populate and manage by themselves.

Brands can use Foursquare pages to connect with their fans, engage in promotions, share tips, and generally interact with the regular members of Foursquare.

To ensure there's no land grab, Foursquare will need Twitter account authentications for brands and personalities although this might mean people could grab accounts in both services having taken control of the Twitter account.

If it sounds familiar, then you must have came across or interact with brand pages on Facebook or Koprol. Facebook page is a popular tool for brands to interact with the public and through it they can share any kind of information that is expected of them.

We'll have more on this and the obvious comparison with Koprol for Business on a later post.
