Global Mediacom (MNC) and Tencent to Build Joint Venture in Indonesia

Two powerhouses in media and Internet industry are about to build strategic joint venture in Indonesia. Indonesia's Global Mediacom (or famously known as MNC Group) and China's Tencent announce its joint venture today in Jakarta. The joint venture is facilitated by Hillhouse Capital Management. Through this joint venture, Tencent will bring its Internet technology and mobile products to Indonesia.

The highlight of this joint venture is WeChat messaging app, where it's now fully supported by MNC Group. All companies under MNC management will have WeChat official account to interact with their consumers. It will also be official channel for those companies to inform the latest updates. WeChat is the largest messaging app in China, having more than 300 million subscribers all around the world in less than two years.

Moreover, MNC helps creating WeChat video commercial that's already aired in three national television networks owned by MNC (RCTI, MNC TV and Global TV). The video features Gisel, a famous TV personality from Indonesian Idol, who represents the cheerful image of WeChat.

WeChat has been available for BlackBerry platform since Indonesia is one of the largest BlackBerry nation in the world. WeChat is also available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

Previously, MNC has already partnered with e-commerce giant Rakuten to establish online marketplace solution PT Rakuten Belanja Online.
