Insight Investments Facilitates Kelase to Speed Up Edutech's Growth

It was yesterday (18/9) that Kelase, an online education and training startup, announced an undisclosed seed funding from Insight Investments. Prior to it, Brimy Laksmana, Kelase’s Co-founder and CEO, stated that the funding would be allocated to develop their products, recruit new talents, as well as upgrade the infrastructures in order to level up their quality.

Kelase provides an online learning environment to almost every kind of learning institutions, schools, colleges, courses, homeschooling, you name it. Having said that, tons of learning contents, ranging from online apps, e-books, learning tools, to video, are included in the startups’ services list. They’re there to assist students learning and teachers teaching. So far, these services that Kelase has to offer have successfully caught the interest of around 700 learning institutions all around Indonesia.

Brimy Laksmana and Winastwan Gora, two creative talents behind the establishment of Kelase, are education technology practitioners who previously worked at one of computer processor manufacturing MNCs. The fact that both are also active entrepreneurs as well as consultants to various international developers has built them their ‘more prominent profiles’ which, in advance, assured the Insight Investments to plant their seed funding at their very own Kelase.

“The growth of technology has inevitably created a brand new digital business era. Insight Investments have always been on the front line when it comes to social and education issues, and we’re highly sure that the founders of Kelase can help us fulfilling this responsibility as well as expanding our portfolio in the future, as the team consists of highly competent individuals who have tons of experience both as education practitioners and entrepreneurs,” Tony Henry S., the Owner and CEO of Insight Investments, stated.

Insight Investments itself is a finance and investment company which has published a number of mutual fund products, i.e hajj mutual fund, teachers mutual fund, sharia mutual fund, and many other investment products.

Winastwan Gora, Kelase’s Co-founder and CTO, told DailySocial that their partnership with Insight Investments is based on the similarities in both parties’ vision and mission. “Insight Investments suits our vision and missions well. Besides funding our development, the company would also be responsible to mentor us about our finance and capital,” Gora said.

With the seed funding, Kelase is expected to give birth to a number of web and mobile apps as well as new education contents for students and teachers to benefit. In regard to this, Gora suggested that there would be more talents joining the team, especially a couple of Android engineers.

Kelase is a free app to access. The startup monetizes from its premium features, paid apps and sponsorship from companies. Currently, Kelase is partnering with Telkom Indonesia in holding workshops to introduce its services to more schools in Indonesia. One of its attempts to get more popularity is by getting involved in a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. The program, entitled “IndiLearning Bagimu Guru Kupersembahkan 2014”, would last until the end of 2014 and is currently getting presented in a number of cities, including Jakarta, Medan, Palembang, Banjarmasin, Singaraja, Surabaya, Makassar, and Jayapura.
