Press Release

Bali, Indonesia, May 17, 2016 – The team behind Mailbird, an email client that continues to grow in popularity as an alternative to other more expensive and outdated clients among Windows users, recently concluded its month-long “hackathon” in Bali. The goal of these hackathons is to continue developing a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration within this email tech startup team. Every day was packed with activities designed to help the Mailbird team come together, ensuring better communication, collaboration, and team-work as they continue their work on developing the best email client for Windows.

Throughout the month-long event, team members were encouraged to track their fitness progress and compete with each other with the help of a custom gamification-style app. , jumping-jacks, burpees, and even jogging in place. At the same time, other users could “accuse” their other team members of doing things such as eating an unhealthy snack or missing a morning workout session. This required the accused team member to complete more fitness tasks, in order to cancel out the accusation.

The team often set out on trips to explore and learn about Bali together visiting some amazing places including Besakih Temple, Tanah Lot, and Trunyan Village. During these excursions, the team took every opportunity to learn more about Bali’s culture, history and even each other considering all the countries they represent – they are truly a global startup team. You can think of it as a highly engaging and fun team workshop that involves skill sharing, team projects and learning things together while enjoying and giving back to the beautiful island of Bali.

The Bali hackathons are amazing! Said Mailbird CEO Andrea Loubier, people from around the world come together as a team here, to learn and grow and get a lot done while learning about marketing, development, customer happiness, networking, confidence-building, planning and execution. It’s awesome and a high impact, high engagement environment. We are excited to bring the Mailbird hackathons to many other awesome locations around the world.

Soon after returning from the Hackathon, the Mailbird team was able to effectively release several new updates to their globally in-demand email client, these include:

Support for Open Authorization allowing Gmail users to activate their accounts more securely and easily.
Custom email notification sounds allowing users to upload their own sounds and songs to alert them to new emails.
As well as a host of in-app improvements and optimizations making Mailbird faster and performance optimized with a great user experience in mind.
