Rocket Internet to Shut Down Lamido
The competition in e-commerce indeed is harsh, and gets even harsher nowadays. Just take a look at how OLX and Berniaga merged to ease the pressure and stresses. Or how Tokopedia and Bukalapak secured gigantic funding in order to survive in Indonesian e-commerce battlefield.
Just today, we received an unpleasant information saying that Rocket Internet will soon put Lamido, their marketplace services, to an end. We have also obtained confirmation from sources close to this matter indicating that the current members of Lamido team will be transferred to Lazada.
Lamido has gathered around 50 talents so far, and more than 2500 registered active merchants. According to DailySocial’s source, those merchants will be gradually transferred to Lazada using the normal mechanism of user registration applied in the marketplace.
Ever since being launched by the end of 2013, Lamido has always attempted to position itself as a direct competitor to Tokopedia and Bukalapak, as it does in other countries like the Philippines, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Within its operational activities, Lamido is run under Lazada even though possessing different team and different strategies.
Currently, Lamido’s website remains active, but according to our source Rocket Internet will stop promoting Lamido’s services.
