Vietnam-Based Foody Expands to Indonesia
DealStreet Asia reported that Foody, a Vietnam-based culinary and restaurant listing startup, has just closed a Series C funding from U.S-based Tiger Global Management. This was the company’s first investment in Vietnamese startup. Now, Foody heads for Southeast Asia, unveiling Indonesia as its main focus of expansion.
Further, Foody claims that the money will be allocated to acclerate its growth, add more users and create more content. Foody also plans to add a table booking feature and food delivery to its vast list of services.
Foody stated that its interests toward Indonesia is based on the premise that Indonesia is ready to consume what Foody has to offer.
Indonesia, like Vietnam, has an immense potential and soon will be the landmark for each and every company with a regional strategy. Thus, Foody will launch Foody.id this coming August 10, along with its mobile app that will be available both at Google Play and Appstore.
In Vietnam, Foody becomes the best source of culinary and entertainment information.
As CyberAgent Ventures’ Head for Vietnam & Thailand Dzung Nguyen stated, Foody excels in Southeast Asia in terms of traffic and number of users. The latest data shows that Foody.vn has around 122.000 POI (point of interest), 297.000 restaurant reviews, 650.000 downloads, and no less than 9,1 million users per month, with almost 65% of the traffic derives from mobile.
Foody.id adds more competition to an already-full restaurant listing industry
Foody, founded back in 2012, is a restaurant recommendation, review, articles, and cloud management system platform. Not only for culinary, Foody now acts as tourism spots informant, beauty tips giver and wedding vendor as well.
Should the service enter Indonesia, it will directly compete with Abraresto, Pergikuliner, Zomato, Qraved, and OpenRice.
To acccommodate the local culture, Foody offers various culinary recommendation, not only those offered by fancy restaurants, but also by street vendors and smaller cafes. Each of its column is also filled with features like restaurant collection, favorite reviews and information of new dining spots.
How to differentiate Foody with other similar restaurant listing platforms?
At a glance, their desktop display look the same. However, Foody also offers other than culinary information, like tourism and other entertainment centers for instance. Although the listing is still incomplete, at least Foody has shown its vision to be a reliable one-stop information center.
