Amazon Web Services is Ready to Enter Indonesia

Cloud provider Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced its readiness in accommodating Indonesians’ thirst of internet services (25/8). It doesn’t only target corporate clients, but also tech-startup industry by offering more competitive price and packages.

That’s what AWS’ Principal Technology Evangelist, Markku Lepistö, stated while introducing local startups that use their services.  According to him, AWS’ services are a weapon that re-defines various market and industries, including hotels, music, and storage rooms. In this case,  Lepistö took AirBnB, Spotify, and DropBox as an example.

“Startups must be agile and fast-growing, utilizing every best technology by spending the least,” he said.

AWS provides more than 50 different services. The team claim that their three main pillars, which are computation, database, and network services, have features that can be utilized based in flexible needs. There is no upfront commitment nor long term contract, so entrepreneurs and developers may easily use one or more of the features at reasonable price using the “pay as you use” scheme.

“Startups usually do everything needed for their business by themselves, while corporate have special team, or even third party, to make their business more neat and well-organized. What we offer is great facility at affordable rate, so that they may focus more on product development. We will handle the rest,” Lepistö continued.

Given the affordable rate AWS offers, Lepistö claimed that AWS allows startups to be more agile in developing their products. In the end, AWS encourages startups to do more experiment in creating valid business model. Thanks to the low cost, the risks can be minimized.

To date, AWS has possessed infrastructure all around the world. There are 11 AWS regions, 30 Availability Zones, and 53 Edge Locations. Nonetheless, none of those facilities is located in Indonesia, with the nearest facilities being built in Singapore, Australia, and China.
