Amplop.in Introduces Subscription System and Add Several New Facilities

Amplop.in is now officially introducing their subscription system and adds some new features to complement their existed variety of services. As I wrote in the previous article on financial planning services, that there will be news from Amplop.in service, here are some recent news from the financial planner service.

Amplop.in now applying freemium system by providing a free service for their users (with limited facilities) and provides several subscription packages to users who want to get a more complete facilities.

There are five packages offered by Amplop.in, the first is the Student package (free, only 50 transactions/month), Scholar (500 transactions/month, Rp 5.000/bln), Family (1500 transactions / month, Rp 10.000/bln), Professional (3000 transactions/month, Rp 15.000/bln), and packet Entrepreneurs (7000 transactions/month, Rp 20.000/bln). There are various ubscription options, ranging from one month up to 2 years, with a requirement of Scholar package for at least 2 months.

This strategy runs quite fast by Amplop.in, it looks like one of the reasons could be because their users have reached over 1088 in just less than 3 weeks, with the campaign only through Twitter. Subscribe system strategy is also consistent with their monetization plan, which will not place ads but plans to get revenue from online consulting + investment deals offering and the subscribe system, which has now been implemented.

Another news comes from Amplop.in service is the addition of security systems in new user registration. Masbuchin from Amplop.in explained that the implementation of reCAPTCHA on registration process of new members is nw executed because there are some DOS attempts on their services.

In addition, for those who are curious to see user statistics in Amplop.in, now they provide  a special page for those who want to see data on the number of users, number of transactions and the envelope created by the Amplop.in users. From this page it can be seen that their users (as of this writing) are 1227 users, a total of 4889 transactions and the total 1604 envelopes.

The application of freemium system could become one monetization strategy, I once discussed the opportunity to implement this system for Indonesian tech startup in the DailySocial article (in Indonesian language), when the advertisement is not a single option to earn income, but the application of freemium could be an option among many others. Unfortunately Amplop.in does not seem to apply an unlimited subcscribe system. Perhaps it also need to apply facilities that can be customized according to user's choice or provide a package for unlimited number of transactions.

The choice of freemium strategy actually should be done quite carefully. As to determining the type of packets that must be precise, and freemium system can not be applied in all services. The patterns of our consumer behavior also seems to be still in a learning phase for this system, even with the application store, consumers have began to be introduced with a free app and a paid/subscribe app.

I think the implementation of the freemium system in Amplop.in service is quite appropriate, although it feels pretty fast, without giving a bit longer time for users to adapt with their services. But for a productivity support service such as Amplop.in, this system could be an option for monetization. Several other productivity support services such as Mantelapp also run freemium system for their services.

Now we shall see how their strategy to get users who are willing to pay, both in terms of promotions and other 'killer feature' additions that will be launched as an attraction for users to pay, and of course their strategies to face the competition.
