ArtSumo, Daily Deal Site for Artworks Tries To Gain Indonesian Merchant

ArtSumo is probably the first daily deal site that's trying to help artists get their artworks sold online, basically using the Groupon approach (trying not to use the term "groupon clone"). Artsumo's vision is to broaden the audience for artists from developing world with rich cultural art roots, Brazil, Africa, and of course Indonesia.

According to co-founder Fernando Pizarro, "Artsumo brings art from the developing world to a much wider audience. We have had a lovely reception since our soft launch, and we are now looking to recruit artists in countries with rich artistic traditions like Indonesia. The great thing about our service is that we are really bringing economic opportunity to artists that might not otherwise have it, so we're pretty excited."

And I think they have a strong reason to get excited, Indonesia's arts and crafts has been exported heavily to countries in Europe and North America which is a huge business. According to Pizzaro, ArtSumo is currently picking up good traction from artists in Thailand and looking forward to see the same trend from Indonesian artists. I wonder why no Indonesian daily deals site has look into this niche market. Anyone?

Anyway.

Although the look and feel of the site is bringing me to the web era of 1999, I think ArtSumo can offer a real value for unsung artists looking for a way to introduce their masterpiece to global market. Since almost every part of Indonesia has a specific cultural art roots, I have no doubt that Indonesian indie-artists would love ArtSumo.
