Fujitsu Helps BPPT to Develop Cloud Infrastructure for Government

As I have discussed in some previous posts, 2012 will be an important milestone for cloud infrastructure in Indonesia. Provider will begin to conduct roadshows and strengthen their brand awareness, while costumers and potential costumers can't wait to test the service as a solution to their needs. It seems the cloud solution began to spread to the government sectors.

Fujitsu Indonesia is acting as cloud infrastructure provider, meanwhile BPPT is a cloud user that related to the data centre and Knowledge Management System. This project, as quoted from Swa, is scheduled to be completed in January 2012. BPPT is the first client of Fujitsu cloud services in Indonesia.

Interestingly, local government seems to understand about the necessity of using cloud technology to support the public promotion. Cimahi municipal government and Pekalongan regency government are two local governments that will use the solutions offered by BPPT (and of course everything would be stored in the cloud infrastructure). In addition, BPPT is also targeting to get a new “small and medium enterprises” as clients.

A survey conducted by Springboard Research said that within the next 12-18 months, 50% of organizations in Indonesia will utilize or at least try the advantages offered by cloud infrastructure. Mr Michael Barnes, Springboard Research Principal Analyst said, "46 percent of users and planners in Indonesia sees cloud computing as a top priority and they have set significant fund for adoption." The figure is one of the highest in the Asia Pacific region.

Fujitsu has three basic packages for their cloud services. The first package is "Fujitsu Global Cloud Platform", a basic package offered by Fujitsu with the infrastructure spread across the globe. Next is "Fujitsu Local Cloud Platform" that serves as SAP IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service). By using a combination of SAP and cloud services, it's no longer need to bother to implement the product in a private data centre. And the last is "Fujitsu Cloud Professional Service" that helps customers designing the right solution for cloud infrastructure needs.

Fujitsu is very confident that the cloud infrastructure business has a bright future. According to the prediction of the President of Fujitsu Ltd., Mr Masami Yamamoto, cloud infrastructure business will control 30% of total new business he owned in 2015. For the ASEAN market, Fujitsu has invested USD 40 million for the development of this technology, from the total budget USD 1.2 billion globally last year.
