Gilkor: Discounts Information In Your Hand
Amidst of tight competitions of "daily deals" program like now, we all know that the main source of discounts for customers is credit card offers. AdaDiskon is a comprehensive service to inform it via website, but unfortunately they don't have mobile application even though you can access it via mobile web. Sometimes ago, we had reviewed mobile application that provides this information, Jagoan. Jagoan had won the BlackBerry Developer Contest in 2009 but it was closed at the beginning of this year.
Gilkor now comes to assist you by finding discounts through various credit card providers. Web version of Gilkor has been available since the beginning of the year, but recently they have launched BlackBerry and Android application. Both platforms need a very moderate mobile device because the application is based on text and images only.
Both applications are still in version 0.9.x. It means that despite the functionality, they are still preparing the final version. There is no information whether these applications will be available for iOS platform or not. Although I don't know the meaning of "Gilkor" but I think the name comes from the abbreviation of "Gila Korting" in Indonesian or "crazy discount".
Gilkor has two alternative registrations: fill out the existing registration form or connect with your Facebook account. One thing that is quite "disturbing" is you can only choose one type of credit card for "ownership". In fact I'm sure that the most of you have more than two credit cards and you want it all appears on the "Mine" tab. It might be a suggestion for future development.
I admit that the application is quite functional and it has a neat design. Yellow and black colour combination reminds me of Infolalulintas design. Information provided by Gilkor is comprehensive and it covers all kinds of credit cards in Indonesia - not only sorted by selected banks but to the card type as well, if any. A part of that, promotional information is based on location (nearby) and it's effectively provided info for a certain radius.
In addition to credit card promo, Gilkor can accommodate social features. You can post comments to a promo. There are also social network features provided by Gilkor; but in my opinion, to be honest, it's not very useful - the more useful feature is the existing share feature. It can share "promo" information to Facebook and Twitter.
Overall, this application is effective. It was overshadowed by Jagoan service which has had similar business thus I hope Gilkor can survive. As addition, because the information provided is a credit card promotion, monetization can be an opportunities here; for example: "promo featured" with a certain fee. With the increasing numbers of Gilkor users, surely it will lead to great number of monetization opportunities.
