Government to Block Uber Very Soon

Detik has just reported a quite surprising news. The Jakarta's Transportation Department is now on their attempt to block Uber, which has been a controversy these past days, by coordinating with the Ministry of Communication and Information. This became their final decision after Uber has yet to administer their operational license until the given deadline passed this week.

This decision derived from the fact that Uber depends highly on the number of downloads its app gets. At least that’s what Muhammad Akbar, Head of Jakarta's Transportation Department, has in mind. “It's like an illegal taxi server. We are currently working on this,” he said.

In contrast to Akbar, Emmanuel, Head of Jakarta's Land Transportation, a division of Transportation Department, thinks that Uber may reduce the number of empty taxis on the streets of Jakarta, which have been the root of traffic jams all the time.

“I personally think that Uber is positive. It’s cashless and reduces the number of empty taxis on the streets,” Emannuel stated. He further said that the Jakarta local government actually prefers to encourage Uber administering its licenses rather than block its services.

“We find it complicated to directly warn them. We are now pushing Uber to administer their operational licences, then we have the supervision card. We’re gonna send Ministry of Communication and Information a notice to block Uber, as its growth depends heavily on the number of downloads,” he confirmed about the blockade.
