MbakDiskon.com, Daily Deals Service from Jogja

Several days ago I went to Jogjakarta (Central Java- Indonesia), and no I didn’t bring anything from there like bakpia or gudeg as some people expected, but I did bring ‘something else’ related to food and lifestyle offers.

I’d like to introduce you to a young lady (Mbak, in Javanese) from Jogja, giving you daily deals offers or discount coupon from various merchant in Jogja, Mbakdiskon.com.

The service is similar with other daily deals, discount offer by purchasing coupons from their website using available payment method like BCA / Mandiri transfer, T-Cash and soon PayPal, customer will get coupon code that can be exchanged one day prior to deal’s availability. Coupons can only be exchanged after they reach certain quota, which shows group purchase system used by MbakDiskon.

So far offers given by MbakDiskon are similar with other daily deals services, like spa treatment and dining, there are also offers from distro (fashion outlet) and other merchants.

I found out about the website from my friends in Jogja while visiting several days ago. One interesting thing is the available opportunity for daily deals service in Jogja. As far as I know there is still just one daily deals service there, which is MbakDiskon (please let us know if you have info on similar service in Jogja). With plenty of dining places in this city, the opportunity for this service is abundant.

Although the offers are not much different from similar services, from talks I had with my friends in Jogja, if the offer or the dining place is interesting, customers will be easily attracted to MbakDiskon’s offer.

The website shows the number of coupons sold since it was launched, it has now reached 308 coupons. However, they still need to work on their websites, like by proving page explaining how the system works. Because daily deals services lean on trust from customers and merchants.

Other daily deals still focusing on cities like Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya. Not many focusing on Jogja, although there are some that include Jogja in their offers, but still there are no offeres available. This perhaps due to Jogja’s market is not as big as other cities mentioned previously and there are differences in cultures that daily deals provider must learn, but on the other hand the lack of daily deals service around Jogja can be turn into opportunities by providing unique and different offer that can attract customers.

Competition in daily deals is entering the next level after Groupon officially enters Indonesian market by acquiring Disdus. Although their strategy is yet to be seen but by looking at Groupon’s network we will be able to see the big picture. On the other hand, other daily deals service launched before Disdus do have their own market share, although this too depends on their own activities.

Innovation and saturated market still should be paid attention to, regardless how big the market share is. Because offers’ niche and uniqueness are still what customers expected and looking forward to.
