Scoop’s First Year
Several days ago, Scoop celebrated its first anniversary. The service is similar to Apple's recently released Newsstand has been introduced for the first time in Indonesia for iPad users.
Scoop for iPad has become one of popular application for Apple (iPad) users in Indonesia. According to its official announcement I received via email, they mentioned that two days after the launching day, Scoop was the first app for Top Free App at Indonesia's App Store Indonesia and they had reached 25 publishers on the launching day.
By now, Scoop - developed by Apps Foundry - has 280 publishers (magazine, journal, e-book) and already has 100.000 downloads and for more than 600.000 magazines and e-books. Scoop also collaborates with Evolitera that provides premium content on Scoop. Therefore, users can buy premium content that commonly found on Evolitera, directly from Scoop.
Since last August, Scoop is available not only for iPad but also fo iPhone and iPod Touch. They also said that they will release this newsstand app for other platforms for next months. The magazine and e-book stall service seems to be interesting for Indonesian users. Scoop explained that their app is quite popular on Indonesian App Store and got positive reviews.
Other similar service like WayangForce also releases several new publishing as their collection as well as DetiKios. Kobo (that has been acquired by Rakuten) will also enter Indonesian market since Rakuten is already here. Besides that, there is also newsstand app from Apple itself.
Publishing world, especially magazine is quite busy in Indonesia. Moreover, there are also some contest for smartphone or tablet. The chance to release magazine in digital form is still opened widely. Although the information access can be done through portal/blog or other media on the internet, the publisher (digital magazine and e-book) has chance to keep growing. One of the factors is because of the easiness of accessing it from tablet, moreover if the price offered is more competitive than the printed version.
