Winners of the 2012 XL Blaast HackDay

Blaast HackDay was held at the Kempinski Grand Ball Room, Hotel Kempinski Jakarta as part of the launch of XL Blaast on January 24.

HackDay ran from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. 25 developers in seven teams came from a number of cities across the country including Yogyakarta (2 teams), Bandung (2 teams), Malang - Surabaya, Depok, and the Jakarta team, which happens to be the official team from Blaast.

Each team made an application within the time allowed. They would be selected two winners and one honorable winner in the category of the most creative applications.

Some participants came from the startup or developer communities. DailySocial readers may already know as among others there are  Fowab, Bancakan, Station, etc..

Blaast officially launched its service exclusively for six months with XL Axiata, you can view the information relating to  XL Blaast launching within this DailySocial article.

It's always fascinating to watch a HackDay event directly in which developers gather in a single venue trying to complete their applications within a set period of time especially seeing them near the submission deadline (as you can see in the video).

After approximately 8 hours of struggling with codes, the came to an end with presentations from all HackDay teams explaining the functions and the reasons behind their applications with the  winners of the HackDay grand launch finally announced at the very end.

The winners were:

  1. Winner: Tempa Labs - Depok
  2. Runner Up: Palapa - Malang
  3. Honorable Mention: OneBit - Yogyakarta

Tempa Labs developed the tools for developers who want to make games on Blaast thus it becomes easier. Palapa developed a turn-based game while OneBit developed applications - mashups that combine multiple chat service.

In addition, Blaast also bestowed an award to a rising star developer, Sandy Ikhlas, for his significant contribution to the Blaast ecosystem.

As mentioned in another article in DailySocial, Blaast currently has approximately 1,000 + developer (in his presentation Daniel Bergqvist, Head of Developer Relations, said the number had reached more than 1,200 developers). It has 100+ local application and can be used in more than 500 mobile devices. In a few details on its release, it  also described the number of available applications that will continue to grow, especially with the support of several programs including the establishment of Blaast Learning Center in one city.
