Based on the newest scoreboard published by Wireless Intelligence, Telkomsel is an operator with the biggest number of users in Indonesia and is on rank #15 of world telecommunication operator (according to the number of users) with 102.3 million users. By the assumption of registered mobile phone users in Indonesia are 200 million people (while Indonesian populations are 240 million), it means that Telkomsel holds 50% of the users. It increased 16% from the previous year and make Telkomsel go to one rank higher than it used to be.
The peak of the position is for China Mobile with total of users is 616.8 million and the total of mobile phone users in that country are 952 million. It means that two third of mobile phone users in China choose China Mobile as their mobile phone operator. Anyway, the big 5 of the telecommunication operators after China Mobile are Vodafone Group, America Movil Group, Telefonica Group, and Bharti Airtel Group. Each of them has more than 200 million registered users.
Although having many users, it doesn’t mean that Telkomsel receives good revenue—compared to other world telecommunication operators. For Q2 2011, Telkomsel “only” received $1.4 billion (IDR 12.4 trillion). In big 15, the Telkomsel revenue is only higher than Reliance from India that received $1 billion.
Mathematically, the Telkomsel revenue from every user (ARPU) is $13.69 (IDR 121.000). While as a comparison, ATT which is on rank #16 (one rank below Telkomsel) received $14.2 billion (IDR 126 trillion) with ARPU $144 (IDR 1.27 million). While China Mobile, again, be the winner of the revenue with $20.3 billion (IDR 180 trillion) in this Q2.
