Yahoo and Vivendi Universal to Introduce "Duet" Music Video Subscription Service in Indonesia

Internet giant Yahoo and music industry behemoth Vivendi Universal will introduce Duet as new entertainment channel in Indonesia. Utilizing Duet, Indonesian consumers will be able to access over 6000 music video from global artists and it will be integrated with entertainment site owned by Yahoo. Duet is a subscription-based service and will be available in Southeast Asian countries, including Indonesia, by the end of the year.

According to The Jakarta Post, Yahoo's Vice President and Head of International Marketing, Robert Bridge, said that video is part of Yahoo's strategy moving forward.

He concluded, "Indonesia remained “attractive to all digital businesses” because of the growth the market had seen although the Japanese market had the highest digital advertising spending in the region, with the Asia-Pacific contributing roughly 20 percent to Yahoo!’s global business. Indonesia is already Yahoo!’s largest market in Southeast Asia in terms of volume and growth of user base."

It's known that Yahoo has signed non-exclusive agreement with Vivendi Uninversal, parent company of Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, to distribute Duet music video subscription service. Artists under Vivendi Universal labels include Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Eminem.

We haven't obtain any further information about Duet's procedure and its subscription scheme, but it's interesting to watch on Yahoo walks further in Indonesian interactive content business by serving subscription-based digital music video service. In Indonesia, the top entertainment site is OMG. OMG just organized its own awards celebration, OMG Awards, few days ago.

Subscription-based music video service in Indonesia hasn't had direct competitor. The champion in this segment is Vevo and it's yet to focus in Southeast Asia region.
