Event Review: MindTalk AppsDay 2012 Yogyakarta Chapter

About a week ago, MindTalk – a local social networking tool (more properly called social channel) held a MindTalk AppsDay 2012, a hackathon, in Yogyakarta, in which participants were required to build an application using MindTalk platform and API.

Mindtalk AppsDay 2012 Yogyakarta was held between April 5-6, 2012 and was hosted by the University Club at Gadjah Mada University. There where around 30 developers registered for this hackathon and produced around 12 applications as well as games using MindTalk’s application and API, including apps for Blibli.com.

Here’s a list of some of the applications made by developers from Yogyakarta that presented their application demos:

  • Rifqi Alfian – Pilih Mana (Blibli category)
  • Augusta Bogie – Blibli mobile apps on iPad
  • Tedi Fibri – PhotoTalk
  • Didiet Noor – Library to access MindTalk API
  • Omar – Quick and Easy Posting on MindTalk
  • Dewanto – “Ship Bumb” (game category)
  • Adhi Wicaksono and Banu Melody – Auction (Blibli category)
  • Erlangga Wijaya and friends – Mindtalk on WP7
  • Ikhsan Hasan aka Labroo – Simple 4Shared Player
  • Arif – “Perang Bintang” (game category)

And two games that were not presented:

  • Soybeansoft – “Hunter Story” (game category)
  • Soybeansoft – “Skyfire” (game category)

In Yogyakarta, hackathons like MindTalk AppsDay 2012 is held very often, and many developers in this city are very enthusiastic about competitions like this. At every hackathon run by companies such as Nokia and Blaast that worked with communities in Yogyakarta like Bancakan 2.0 or others, it's apparent that the city has very talented and highly qualified developers.

The hackathon, produced a lot of interesting ideas that deserve to be further explored. I believe that the cities located far from Jakarta such as Yogyakarta, Malang, etc. have talents greater and stronger than Jakarta.

Talking as a student majoring in IT, to be honest, hackathon like Mindtalk AppsDay 2012 is very interesting to attend. Aside from exercising our skill in coding to develop an application as well as a game, such event also bring useful experience for the student. It would be nice if there is a campus to IT campus road show. It’s also my advice and comment for MindTalk AppsDay 2012.

We also had the opportunity to document a video during a presentation at the hacktathon. These are the videos and photos during the event:
