Halodoc Raises Series B+ Investment from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Prudential, and Allianz X
The amount reaches $100 million in total
A health-tech startup, Halodoc, announces Series B+ funding with an unspecified amount from three strategic investors, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Allianz X, and Prudential. The fresh funding is to support services through technology in Indonesia.
Both Allianz and Prudential are global insurance companies. They're also the users of Halodoc. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is one of the biggest philanthropic foundations worldwide, founded by Microsoft's Co-Founder, Bill Gates with his wife.
Earlier this year, the company has closed Series B funding led by UOB Venture Management worth of $65 million (around 919 billion Rupiah). Other investors participated in this round are Singtel Innov8, Korea Investment Partners, and Wuxi AppTec.
In calculation, Halodoc has raised almost $100 million (around Rp1.4 billion). It includes investors from previous round, Go-Ventures, BliBli, Openspace Ventures, and Investopedia.
Halodoc's CEO, Jonathan Sudharta officially stated the entrance of these strategic investors are to help the company improving quality and more health services for Indonesian people living in the big cities and outside Java.
Those places are considered in need of sufficient health infrastructure. These investors suppose to help the company's commitment by creating new initiatives for Indonesian people to have better access to health services.
"Halodoc intends to learn from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which has been long partnering up to provide the best health solution and to improve the welfare worldwide," he defined.
Allianz X's Investment Director, Carsten Middendorf added on this investment that the company's commitment to focusing on transformative business in the developing market and provide affordable insurance to the underserved citizens.
"We expect to partner up with Halodoc in any vertical and help them to tighten up business and coverage in the SEA market," Middendorf said.
Allianz is to boost up their 24x7 digital health services and its ecosystem in Halodoc app.
Halodoc has three main products, Apotek Antar has been serving 50 cities all over Indonesia, Layanan Lab to facilitate users for medical check-up either at home or the office, and Hubungi Dokter to directly interact with doctors online. In addition, they started expanding to corporate business.
In average, Halodoc has served 7 million patients per month in all around Indonesia, 80% of those are outside the first-tier cities, Jakarta and Surabaya.
In the Gojek app, Halodoc provides consulting session via chat for free.
