OnlinePajak Helps SMEs’ Tax Management

The calculation, payment, and reporting of taxes which is done once a year is surely one big scourge to practically anyone, not excluding companies, SMEs, and individuals. For SMEs with more than $450,000 annual revenue, tax reporting might be a nightmare due to the lack of resources, be it to hire financial analysts or spare some time to review all transactions and taxes that they must pay. It was to help them doing this part of the task that OnlinePajak was born, as the platform turns the complicated SMEs’ taxation management into a piece of cake.

OnlinePajak, which is developed by Achilles Systems, is designed to help anyone, even those with the least knowledge on taxation, to manage their taxation activities, particularly the income tax and value added tax (VAT). The platform helps taxpayers not only to make a tax report, but also to account every transaction made, as the system automatically calculates the amount of taxes that must be paid and generates the tax report by the end of every period.

Charles Guinot, Achilles Systems’ Founder and CEO, said, “OnlinePajak is an online-based tax app which eases companies to calculate, pay, and report taxes.”

There are so many ways to take care of the taxes, but Guinot claimed that his OnlinePajak is the only one to bring the tax management online. The platform is specially designed for SMEs with more than $450 thousand annual revenue, since those with less revenue only require simpler procedures of tax management. OnlinePajak allows various companies to use one single account.

Only in three months after being launched back in September 2014, OnlinePajak has netted more than 1000 companies. Even so, Guinot suggested that they don’t intend to grow that significant in a short period. Currently, they are focusing on optimizing their system, which has been integrated into the Directorate General of Tax’s (commonly abbreviated as DJP) computerization. They’re also conducting a trial to see whether we can input the report directly in a form of E-Filing or not.

This March, they target to accommodate the taxpayers’ annual notification letter and article 21 of the income tax. They also aim to connect OnlinePajak’s system with the banking system to make the payment process much simpler. By the next two years, they target to have 100 thousand companies as their clients.

As for the business model, OnlinePajak employs the freemium scheme, meaning that although it’s basically free, users can pay for premium accesses to technical support and tax consultation. Its plan is to establish its own marketplace which supports the third parties’ add-ons.

Guinot added that Achilles Systems is currently in the process of looking for partnering tax consultants to push the penetration of OnlinePajak’s system, so that the consultants will focus solely on its business core, which is the tax consultation.

Data security becomes one of OnlinePajak’s main concern. They attempt to comply with the ISO27001 on Management of Data Security System as well as DJP requirements and make sure that the data restored at OnlinePajak cannot be stolen no matter how.

At the moment, OnlinePajak can be accessed via various devices. Regarding its penetration on mobile segment, Achilles Systems’ Product Manager Dennis Wu stated, “Because this app contains so much information, we are currently focusing only on desktop and tablet. We’ll try to make it available on mobile app (in the future). We know that mobile apps are highly popular among people.”
