PANDI Launched “S.id” URL Shortener

A couple of days ago, Pandi (Pengelola Domain Indonesia) launched a URL shortener service called S.id (S dot id). This service may help Indonesian Internet users to simplify shared website addresses which are considered to be way too long and complicated.

If you are one of active tweeps or other social media users, you must know about bit.ly or t.co, or at least not a stranger to those two URL shortener services. Since both are not based in Indonesia, tons of bandwidth produced by Indonesian internet users must travel abroad, most of them are even unnecessarily wasted. This is why Pandi insisted on developing the S.id service.

Andi Budimansyah, Pandi’s Chief, told Kompas, “If we use other services, the bandwidth will go ouside Indonesia. We developed S.id to keep the bandwidth stay in Indonesia in order to level up our local traffic. The goal is to save more bandwidth in Indonesia.”

This S.id provides cheaper, faster, and easier internet access. Budimansyah expects that S.id can be widely used by Indonesian internet users who will, hopefully, share it via social networks so that the national bandwidth traffic can be enhanced and the multiplier effect can be created.

“The multiplier effect, that’s what we aim to get, so that S.id can be recognized and used by much more users,” Budimansyah ended.

Just like any other similiar services, S.id has also been equipped with built-in analytics feature which enables users to look at the data analytics of their shared links. S.id’s main page is slicked up with breathtaking tourism objects located in Indonesia, such as Raja Ampat islands and Jam Gadang.
