More TransJakarta Bus Stops To Have Free WiFi Next Month, Entire City in Five Years
Starting this weekend, passengers of TransJakarta buses ail be able to enjoy free wireless Internet access on several TransJakarta bus stops. Previously this was only available on Harmoni and Dukuh Atas stops but from September 1, the service will be available on stops from Bundaran HI to Bundaran Senayan as well as stops from S. Parman until Grogol.
According to Kompas, this was conveyed by Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo on Monday in Jakarta. According to the Governor the city's residents can also enjoy free wifi connection at the National Monument, Menteng Park and Ayodhya Park in Kebayoran Baru.
According to the five year plan, all of Jakarta will be covered by free wireless Internet connection. The city government's plan was delivered by the head of communications, information, and public relations of DKI Jakarta, Sugiyanta. This facility is the result of a collaboration of the government and several fiber optic providers.
Based on that agreement, three fiber optic companies will each make two core lines available for public access. From those six cores, four are already in public use whereas two are being used to serve private companies.
A few other regional governments have also rolled out similar programs for their residents. Bandung's government for example has been working to provide free wireless access across the city, and the same goes for Solo and Yogyakarta.
